Senior Product Manager
The Senior Product Manager is a leadership role responsible for defining and executing long-term category and product strategy, managing the end-to-end product lifecycle from ideation to launch, and leading cross-functional teams including design, engineering, finance, operations, and marketing. Key responsibilities include conducting market research, creating product roadmaps, translating business objectives into product requirements, competitive benchmarking, and making data-driven decisions to ensure product success and market fit. This position requires strong leadership, communication, planning, strategic thinking, and the ability to manage stakeholders and resources effectively to achieve targeted sales growth, business profitability, and long-term market leadership.
Leadership and Management:
- Act as the point of contact and product evangelist for stakeholders, communicating the product vision and value proposition.
- Lead, mentor, and coach more junior product managers and team members, fostering a culture of continuous improvement sharing knowledge, insights, and best practices to develop their skills, confidence, and career path helping them overcome challenges and achieve their goals.
- Develop and maintain 1–3-year category plans including strategic and tactical initiatives that support overall corporate goals and customer-specific plans for key accounts.
- Participate in customer meetings when required and serve as the company's "go to" category, market, product expert providing the insights required for future growth.
- Develop presentations for management to communicate current situations, future plans, and financial summary of key initiatives for product category(s).
Product Lifecycle Management:
- Create and execute product strategy based on company vision and business objectives.
- Define and articulate the product roadmap for major initiatives, aligning it with long-term company goals.
- Responsible for overall product line success and growth including top line growth, bottom line profitability, promotional activity, product development, and daily maintenance.
- Create and manage lifecycle plans for all SKUs to optimize customer product placement, exposure, and category profitability.
- Make data-driven decisions by analyzing product performance metrics, user data, and market trends.
- Conduct research and competitive analysis to identify new opportunities and stay ahead of industry trends and underserved markets.
- Support and participate in Sales & Operations Planning for assigned product categories.
- Manage inventory levels of all responsible product lines: control excess inventory, rationalize product offering and pricing, and conduct SKU Rationalization analysis.
- Responsible for pricing strategies, P & L analysis, and pricing setting for specific products or categories and customer specific programs.
- Initiate Item Set-Up & Change (ISC) requests to set up new items and make changes to existing items.
- Industry trade show and events preparation – collaborate and support marketing communications team by representing the company and its products at trade shows, providing technical support and product knowledge to customers and internal teams.
Product Development:
- Translate user and stakeholder needs into clear product specifications and requirements documents.
- Define an effective selling proposition for new products and repositioned products that outline the key consumer benefits and attributes that support the benefits.
- Communicate consumer, industry, and customer needs and insights, product requirements and benefits, and program needs to cross-functional NPD team.
- Drive new product development initiatives and work with NPD Team and Management to set new product development priorities within assigned product categories.
- Lead cross-functional teams including design, engineering, finance, operations, marketing, and sales to ensure timely product launch.
- Develop and manage projects through project management tracking documents and meeting notes with details on key deliverables and timelines for project milestones.
- Ensure the commercialization of products and services are launched successfully and on schedule.
Customer Experience and Market Research:
- Incorporate a deep passion for customer experience and a proven ability to understand and advocate for customer needs.
- Conduct Voice of Customer (VOC) surveys to gather customer feedback and inform strategic decisions.
- Engage with sales team and customers to prospect, advance, and close new business and grow customer relationships.
- Stay well-informed with industry trends, advancements, technologies, services, suppliers, and emerging marketing and product technologies.
- Conduct primary and utilizes secondary market research that documents customer needs, market trends, and product development opportunities, providing the basis for critical decision making and category leadership plans.
- Utilize research results to develop insights forming strategic and tactical initiatives for business, new product development, marketing plans, branding strategies, and presentations.
Experience and Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in marketing or business (MBA) is preferred
- 5+ years of experience in marketing and product development disciplines, with a strong emphasis on product management, product development, customer experience, ecommerce, and creative innovation including 2+ years of managerial experience.
- Proven background as a product manager and product development leader including demonstrated leadership skills in cross-functional environments.
- Influential in nature, with the ability to build relationships cross functionally while working collaboratively with executives/team leads to ensure the growth of the company is the forefront of all decisions made.
- Strong understanding of product costing, forecasting, and reporting.
- Excellent leadership, communication, interpersonal, and management skills, with the ability to inspire, mentor and develop direct reports.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to leverage data and insights for informed decision-making.
- Ability to work under pressure, multitask, and hold cross functional team members accountable for tasks and goals.
- The ability to travel based on business needs, including overnight travel.
- Hybrid role requiring presence at various facilities and Corporate HQ (Leawood, Kansas).
- Valid driver's license and acceptable Motor Vehicle Report (MVR).
