Research Scientist Intern, Optical Design (PhD)

Meta Reality Labs brings together a world-class team of researchers, developers, and engineers to create the future of virtual and augmented reality. Our internships are twelve (12) to twenty-four (24) weeks long and we have various start dates throughout the year.

Responsibilities:

• Develop next generation AR/VR displays with an emphasis on advanced modeling and prototyping to prove new concepts and understand the perceptual impact of those concepts.
• Collaborate with researchers and cross-functional partners including communicating research plans, progress, and results.
• Explore application of active photonic integrated circuits or components to develop a near eye display.
• Publish research results in internal organizations, conferences, patents and contribute to research that can be applied to Meta product development.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Currently has or is in the process of obtaining a PhD degree in Physics, Mathematics, Optical Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computational Imaging, Material Sciences or relevant technical field.
• Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.
• 2+ years experience in at least one of the following areas of optical research: active photonic integrated circuits, holography, diffractive optics, computational electromagnetics/photonics.
• 2+ years hands on experience with one of the following optical simulation algorithms: RCWA, FDTD, FEM, adjoint method, or similar.
• Familiarity with Python, Matlab or equivalent programming languages.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in working on active photonic circuit based near eye display research.
• Proven track record of achieving significant results as demonstrated by grants, fellowships, patents, as well as first-authored publications in top-tier journals or at leading conferences such as CLEO, SPIE, and APS.
• Experience working and communicating cross functionally in a team environment.
• Intent to return to a degree-program after the completion of the internship.

Compensation: $7,313/month to $12,134/month + benefits
