Senior Physical Substation Designer
We are a specialized engineering and EPC support organization focused on delivering high-voltage transmission and substation projects that keep the grid reliable, resilient, and ready for the energy transition. Our teams partner directly with utilities, developers, and EPC firms to execute complex infrastructure projects from conceptual design through construction support.
Job Description
- Develop full physical substation design packages including:
- General arrangement (GA) drawings
- Equipment layout plans and elevations
- Sections and detail views
- Design AIS and GIS substation yard layouts (12kV-500kV)
- Coordinate conduit, duct bank, and trench routing layouts
- Develop and support grounding grid layouts and coordination
- Design control building layouts, cable tray routing, and raceway systems
- Work closely with civil and structural teams on foundations, steel structures, and grading plans
- Coordinate with protection & control engineers to ensure accurate equipment placement and cable routing
- Perform QA/QC reviews of substation design deliverables
- Support construction teams with RFIs, field changes, and as-built updates
- Ensure compliance with utility standards and applicable IEEE/ANSI/NESC requirements
- Participate in design reviews and constructability evaluations

The Successful Applicant
- 7-15+ years of physical substation design experience
- Strong background in high-voltage substations (69kV-500kV preferred)
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or MicroStation
- Solid understanding of:
- Substation layout and equipment spacing
- Grounding and grounding grid principles
- Duct bank, conduit, and cable routing design
- Experience working in EPC, utility, or consulting engineering environments
- Strong communication skills and ability to work across multidisciplinary teams
