Job Description
Prepare and review detailed substation drawings, including:
- General Arrangement
- Electrical Equipment Plans
- Section Views / Elevations
- Detailed Bill of Materials
- Lightning Stroke Shielding Plan
- Grounding Plan
- Conduit, Electrical Connection, and Grounding Details
- Below Grade Conduit/Raceway Plans
- Control Building Equipment, Cable Tray, Lighting, Grounding Plans, and Sections
- Conduct technical reviews of vendor design deliverables, ensuring compliance with specifications and consolidating project team comments.
- Lead field walkdowns, gather data at client facilities, and perform constructability assessments with clients and contractors.
- Apply and guide team members in using applicable codes, standards, and company processes.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to designers, drafters, and project staff in design tools and best practices.
- Review and supervise the production of design deliverables.
- Provide technical guidance on calculations and develop cost-effective design approaches.
- Collaborate with other disciplines to obtain design inputs and ensure integrated design.
- Manage work plan execution within budget and schedule, delegating and monitoring technical work of assigned staff.
- Provide performance feedback and assist with personnel development for assigned team members.

The Successful Applicant
A successful Substation Physical Project Designer should have:
- Associates Degree in Drafting, Computer-Aided Design, or equivalent technical experience.
- 15+ years of substation physical design experience.
- Advanced knowledge of computer drafting tools (AutoCAD and/or MicroStation).
- Strong ability to visualize equipment details, phase-to-ground and phase-to-phase clearances, and 3D spatial layouts.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Familiarity with design review tools and software such as Bentley Substation, Inventor SDS, and BlueBeam.
- Experience converting Lidar point cloud data to vector drawings is a plus.
- Knowledge of design principles, engineering science applications, and technical blueprint production.
