Design Permitting Technician

Join a team that designs the infrastructure powering communities. As a Design Permitting Technician, you'll support overhead and underground electric utility projects through high-quality drafting, permitting research, and field collaboration. This role blends technical design work with hands-on field exposure and offers clear growth opportunities into a lead or mentoring position.

What You'll Do

  • Create plan and profile drawings using AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
  • Research permitting requirements and prepare complete, compliant permit packages.
  • Design overhead and underground electric utility systems.
  • Interpret survey data, pole diagrams, and GIS (Smallworld) information.
  • Support field work such as site visits, inspections, and data collection.
  • Coordinate with engineering, construction, and internal teams to keep projects on schedule.
  • Manage multiple projects while meeting quality, safety, and regulatory standards.
  • Grow into a technical resource supporting junior team members over time.

What You Bring

  • AutoCAD proficiency with experience in plan and profile design (Civil 3D preferred).
  • Permitting or regulatory documentation experience.
  • Strong math, measurement, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Interest or experience in utility design or infrastructure.
  • Associate degree in drafting, design, engineering, or a related field.
  • Valid driver's license.

Nice to have: GIS Smallworld experience, utility construction experience, or interest in a future leadership role.

Work Environment

  • Mix of office and field work (about 20% field time, higher during peak phases).
  • Office work is currently remote, with a future on-site transition.
  • Safety-focused, collaborative, and growth-oriented environment.

Why Apply?

If you enjoy technical design, problem-solving, and seeing projects move from concept to construction—with room to grow—this is a great opportunity to build a long-term career in utility design.
