PCB Designer

The PCB Designer will join the System Controls Engineering team to design and develop high-quality, complex multi-layer printed circuit boards for commercial HVAC equipment and building automation systems. Using Altium Designer and related tools, this role focuses on implementing high-speed digital, analog, RF, and high-power circuits for embedded controllers, I/O modules, touch screen displays, intelligent devices, and wireless sensors. The position plays a key role in advancing innovative, energy-efficient technologies that support a more sustainable world.

Responsibilities

  • Convert electrical schematics into detailed PCB layouts using Altium Designer for complex, multi-layer circuit boards.
  • Collaborate closely with Electrical and Mechanical Engineers to ensure PCB designs meet functional, mechanical, thermal, and manufacturability requirements.
  • Create and maintain engineering Bills of Materials (BOMs), drawings, specifications, and Creo 3D component models to support product development and production.
  • Maintain and update the PCB component library, including schematic symbols and PCB footprints, to ensure accuracy and consistency across designs.
  • Interpret datasheets and electrical schematics to generate netlists and define proper constraints within PCB layout designs.
  • Support PCB assembly manufacturing reviews by providing design input and resolving layout-related issues to improve quality and manufacturability.
  • Participate in cost-saving initiatives and productivity improvement activities related to PCB design and component selection.
  • Contribute to new technology and innovation efforts, exploring improved design methods, components, and layout strategies.
  • Apply knowledge of high-speed differential circuits, memory interfaces, power circuits, impedance control, RF, heat dissipation, and EMI optimization in PCB designs.
  • Use PLM tools to release engineering designs and bills of materials in accordance with internal processes and standards.
  • Collaborate in an open, consensus-oriented team environment and communicate effectively with cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Assess design-related problems, identify root causes, and propose effective solutions within project timelines.

Essential Skills

  • Associate's Degree or equivalent experience with PCB design.
  • 3+ years of experience in PCB design using Altium Designer, Creo, or equivalent PCB design tools.
  • Proficiency in PCB layout for complex, multi-layer boards including high-speed digital, analog, RF, and high-power circuits.
  • Experience managing printed circuit board designs from schematic interpretation through layout and release.
  • Ability to interpret datasheets and electrical schematics to generate netlists and define layout constraints.
  • Experience creating and maintaining engineering Bills of Materials, drawings, and specifications.
  • Experience creating schematic symbols and PCB footprints for component libraries.
  • Familiarity with high-speed differential circuits, memory interfaces, power distribution, impedance control, RF considerations, heat dissipation, and EMI optimization.
  • Proficiency with PC-based Windows programs, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong problem assessment and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in an open, consensus-oriented team environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with Windchill PLM or similar product lifecycle management systems for releasing engineering designs and BOMs.
  • Knowledge of IPC, UL, and other relevant electronic design and safety standards.
  • Experience with Altium Vault, Concord Pro, or similar library management systems for component and library control.
  • Experience creating component models using Creo 3D for mechanical integration and documentation.
  • Experience participating in PCB assembly manufacturing reviews and addressing design-for-manufacturability considerations.
  • Exposure to cost reduction and productivity improvement initiatives in an engineering or manufacturing environment.
  • Interest in and contribution to new technology and innovation activities within product development.
