Overview The VP of Application Development & Product Engineering is the executive architect of the enterprise's digital delivery engine. This role is directly accountable for the design, development, and scaling of high-performing digital products that drive North American revenue growth and operational efficiency.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Full accountability for the development and lifecycle management of customer-facing platforms (e.g., Terminix.com, MyAccount) and critical field-service operational applications.
  • Establish and enforce elite engineering standards, including CI/CD, DevSecOps, and automated testing, to ensure a high-velocity, "quality-at-the-source" delivery model.
  • Partner closely with Portfolio Governance and Business Stakeholders to translate prioritized demand into disciplined, executable technical roadmaps.
  • Own the Application, Platform, and Technical Architecture functions, ensuring architectural standards are directly aligned with delivery speed and long-term business agility.
  • Direct the end-to-end release management lifecycle, fostering a culture of continuous deployment that ensures predictable delivery while minimizing business disruption.
  • Proactively manage the technical health of the portfolio by balancing the delivery of new features with a rigorous strategy to retire technical debt and obsolescence.
  • Drive the pragmatic adoption of emerging technologies-such as Generative AI-assisted development and agentic workflows-to further compress development cycles and enhance application intelligence.
  • Champion the operational resilience of the application portfolio, ensuring that scalability, security, and high performance are natively engineered into every digital solution

Candidate Requirements

  • Education Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 15+ years of progressive experience in software engineering and product delivery, with at least 7+ years in an executive leadership role managing large, distributed teams.
  • Demonstrated success in scaling customer-facing digital platforms and improving delivery velocity in a high-growth, matrixed environment.
  • Deep experience with modern cloud architectures (AWS/Azure/GCP), microservices, and API management.

The ability to move beyond "project management" to a product-centric model focused on continuous value delivery and user experience.

A data-driven approach to identifying bottlenecks in the delivery pipeline and implementing systemic improvements.

Expertise in managing global delivery partners and 3rd-party engineering firms to augment internal capacity without sacrificing quality.

Expertise in relationship management and an exemplary ability to manage stakeholder expectations through clear and transparent communications.

Ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with the appropriate level of judgement, discretion, and maturity.

Ability to pragmatically integrate emerging technologies-such as AI-augmented development-to compress the software development lifecycle.

Proven record of leading Agile-at-scale (SAFe, Scrum, etc.) to ensure predictable sprint cycles and transparent progress reporting.

Competency in Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) principles to ensure system stability and performance as delivery speed increases.

Deep understanding of P&L management, CapEx/OpEx balance, and ensuring every engineering hour is backed by a clear business case and ROI

The ability to mediate between business units competing for the same engineering capacity while maintaining enterprise alignment.

Specialized skill in reducing the time from "business requirement" to "production deployment" without increasing the defect rate.

The discipline to quantify technical debt and negotiate its retirement as a part of every functional delivery.

Advanced ability to forecast engineering hours and align resource allocation against complex, multi-stream delivery roadmaps.
