Senior Design Performance Analyst

NBBJ is seeking a motivated and forward-thinking Senior Design Performance Analyst to join our Design Performance Team. In this role, you will collaborate closely with project teams, consultants, and team leaders to conduct performance analyses, develop custom tools, and implement cutting-edge workflows. Your work will advance sustainability strategies across the firm's portfolio from small interiors projects to large-scale campuses in multiple sectors, including healthcare, science, and commercial spaces. As a subject matter expert, you will also mentor project team members to expand skills and broaden impact. The ideal candidate is a strong communicator and team player, eager to leverage NBBJ's broad resources to help achieve high-performance, sustainable design outcomes.

The Design Performance Analyst will be part of NBBJ's Studio N, a firmwide studio of thought leaders and experts, brought together as an interdisciplinary team to support innovative and sustainable design. Based in the US, this firmwide role will work closely with project teams in 12 global offices in the US, UK, and China. The preferred candidate will be based in our Seattle office; however, candidates will be considered in any of our NBBJ locations in the USA (Boston, Columbus, Los Angeles, New York, Portland, San Francisco or Seattle).

In your new role, you will:

  • Conduct various design performance analyses for projects to meet sustainability targets (e.g., LEED, WELL, Living Building Challenge): Required: environmental and human performance analyses including early energy analysis, daylight autonomy, solar access, and early envelope studies. Collaborate with design teams to implement strategies for decarbonization, energy efficiency and occupant comfort.
  • Interpret and effectively communicate high-performance, sustainable design requirements, goals and concepts to project teams through written reports, data visualization (graphics), and presentations.
  • Teach project teams to run and interpret different analyses to increase their design performance capabilities. Review results of colleagues' analyses for quality and accuracy.
  • Provide thought leadership and creative problem-solving skills for high-performance building concepts to inspire teams and project owners
  • Stay current on emerging technologies and sustainability regulations.
  • Learn and maintain custom in-house tools, and be able to develop new tools for measuring environmental and human performance in the built environment.
  • Craft new workflows to ease the integration of performance analytics into the design process.
  • Contribute to a high-energy global team in support of projects in multiple offices.

What you will need to succeed:

  • 8-15+ years of experience in building performance analyses, energy modeling, sustainability and climate resilience, with at least 2 years of experience in Architecture practice.
  • Proficiency in energy modeling tools (e.g., IES VE, EnergyPlus, OpenStudio).
  • Proficiency with daylight analysis tools (e.g., Climate Studio, Radiance, Honeybee).
  • Experience with whole-building lifecycle assessment software (e.g., Tally, OneClick LCA) preferred.
  • Experience with Revit, Rhino, or other architectural production software.
  • Understanding of the architectural design and delivery process.
  • Understanding of resilience, electrification and decarbonization, passive design, energy/water performance.
  • Ability to develop and communicate simple, elegant solutions to highly technical problems.
  • Proven expertise in integrating holistic green building strategies across diverse markets and project scales.
  • Excellent presentation and facilitation skills, with the ability to lead charrettes, workshops, and client meetings.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Architecture, Building Science, or related field.
  • Relevant sustainability credentials such as LEED AP, WELL AP, LFA, or Fitwel Ambassador.
  • Professional certifications such as Architectural license, PE, CEM, BEMP.
  • A collaborative mindset and the ability to work in a design focused, team-based open environment.

The annual base pay range for this role is anticipated to be between $100,000 and $120,000. Actual compensation for successful candidates will be carefully determined based on a number of factors, including their skills, qualifications and experience.

This role requires individual to be based in the United States.
