Global Scan for Women's Health Product Innovation for LMICs

Around the world, the FemTech sector and women's health innovators are generating breakthrough solutions — from novel contraceptives and diagnostic tools to menstrual health and pelvic care products. But most of these innovations are designed for high-income settings, with limited pathways to reach women in low- and middle-income countries. The result: a fragmented, inequitable landscape where the women who could benefit most are often last in line.

Our vision is to create a living pipeline of promising women's health innovations — spanning contraception, maternal health, diagnostics, menstrual products, pelvic health, and more — sourced from global femtech, early-stage VC portfolios, and leading innovators with a focus on adapting and scaling products for LMIC context. Working with innovators, we aim to adapt, optimize, and prepare products for scale.

We seek a consultant to lead a global scan that identifies high-potential innovations (in women's health), assesses their LMIC applicability, and provides actionable recommendations for funders and partners.

Scope Of Work

Phase 1: Contraceptive and safe abortion.

  • Conduct desk research and stakeholder interviews to scope product innovations in the FemTech space and innovations supported by VC/Impact investors.
  • Provide insight and evidence on these innovations against a set of assessment criteria (will be provided) to evaluate feasibility, acceptance and potential in LMIC settings.

Deliverables:

  • First draft summary of landscape and high-level recommendations (delivered in a word document or ppt) by end October
  • Final output with full landscape and recommendations by end Dec 2025.

Phase 2: Wider remit of women's health areas.

  • Support the selection of adjacent women's health areas based on the burden in LMICs and potential for product innovation.
    • Conduct analysis of available data on women's health areas in LMICs.
    • Make recommendations for areas to focus.
  • Within these health areas, conduct a global scan of women's health innovations (most are focused on the US/EU markets) to identify those with the highest potential to deliver impact at scale in LMICs.
    • Develop a set of criteria to assess potential in LMICs.
    • Connect with existing networks and connectors in the space to map out the existing innovations (from Phase 1 CT to in-market).
    • For each health areas, provide a short list of potential innovations. Outline the rationale for their selection and highlight information gaps that may need to be filled.
  • Research primary barriers and motivators for innovators to bring their products to LMICs.
    • Speak to innovators, network leaders and other stakeholders. Consolidate responses and create recommendations for how these might be overcome.
  • Scope innovating funding models.
    • Landscape investment funders, VCs, directly working on fem tech, women's health and product innovation in LMICs.
    • Hold information interviews to understand their motivators, barriers and opportunities for their investment in scaling women's health product innovation in LMICs.

Deliverables:

  • First draft summary of landscape and high-level recommendations (delivered in a word document or ppt) by end Dec 2025.
  • Final output with full landscape and recommendations by end Feb 2026.

Required Qualifications (Evaluation Criteria)

  • Expertise in the field of women's health, FemTech, product innovation and/or market shaping. Preference for someone with experience working with LMICs. (25%)
  • A wide network of relevant experts, convening groups and other relevant contacts in this space. (25%)
  • Ability to conduct robust, strategic analysis to provide a useful assessment. (25%)
  • Strong communications skills. (25%)
