We are looking for a strategic, high-ownership Director of Organic Growth to lead and scale QuillBot's organic acquisition engine across all major discovery surfaces. This role goes well beyond traditional SEO—you will own the full spectrum of organic growth, including Search Engine Optimization (SEO), App Store Optimization (ASO), Generative Engine Optimization (GEO), and Extension Store visibility (Chrome Web Store, Safari Extensions Gallery, and others). As a Director, you will set the vision, build and manage the roadmap, and lead the existing SEO & Organic Growth team. You'll partner closely with Product, Engineering, Content, Brand, and International teams to embed organic growth into QuillBot's product and go-to-market strategy. Your work will directly influence organic traffic, sales, install volume, revenue, and brand visibility on a global scale.

Responsibilities

  • Strategy & Leadership
    • Organic Growth Strategy: Define and own the overarching organic growth strategy spanning SEO, ASO, GEO, and Extension Store optimization. Set quarterly and annual OKRs tied to impressions, clicks, MAU, installs, and sales.
    • Team Leadership: Manage, mentor, and develop the SEO & Organic Growth team. Foster a culture of experimentation, accountability, and continuous learning. Identify and hire for key capability gaps as needed.
    • Roadmap Ownership: Build and maintain a prioritized organic growth roadmap. Balance quick wins with longer-term strategic bets. Present plans and progress to senior leadership, including the CEO.
    • Cross-Functional Partnership: Serve as the organic growth voice in cross-functional planning with AI, Product, Engineering, Content, Brand, Marketing Operations, and International Expansion teams. Ensure organic considerations are embedded in product launches, site architecture decisions, and content strategy.
    • Product Roadmap Influence: Act as a key influencer of the Product roadmap by surfacing organic growth opportunities, user intent data, and search landscape insights that shape feature prioritization, new product bets, and go-to-market timing.
  • Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
    • SEO Program Ownership: Own end-to-end SEO performance across QuillBot's web properties. Drive strategy across on-page, off-page, and technical SEO to secure and defend top positions for high-value keywords.
    • Technical SEO: Lead technical audits and partner with Engineering to resolve crawlability, indexation, Core Web Vitals, site speed, structured data, and mobile-responsiveness issues at scale.
    • Content & Keyword Strategy: Oversee keyword research, content gap analysis, and on-page optimization. Collaborate with the Content team to ensure every page is strategically targeted and continuously improved.
    • Link Building & Authority: Direct link-building and digital PR strategies to grow domain authority. Evaluate backlink quality and build partnerships with authoritative sites.
    • Algorithm Resilience: Monitor Google algorithm updates, diagnose ranking fluctuations, and quickly adapt strategies to protect and grow organic traffic.
  • Generative Engine Optimization (GEO)
    • GEO Strategy: Develop and execute a strategy to maximize QuillBot's visibility in AI-generated answers and citations across generative search experiences (e.g., Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT, etc).
    • Content for LLMs: Work with Content and Product to structure information, schema markup, and authoritative content so that generative engines accurately surface and recommend QuillBot.
    • Measurement & Experimentation: Define GEO-specific metrics, build tracking frameworks, and run experiments to understand how generative surfaces drive traffic and conversions.
    • Competitive Intelligence: Monitor how competitors are cited in generative answers and identify opportunities to increase QuillBot's share of voice.
  • App Store Optimization (ASO)
    • ASO Program Ownership: Own QuillBot's organic discoverability and conversion rates in the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
    • Listing Optimization: Optimize app titles, subtitles, descriptions, keywords, screenshots, and preview videos to improve search rankings and download conversion rates.
    • Ratings & Reviews: Develop strategies to increase the volume and quality of positive ratings and reviews, and work with Product to address recurring user feedback themes.
    • A/B Testing: Design and run store listing experiments to continuously improve conversion. Leverage tools like Google Play Experiments and third-party ASO platforms.
    • Market-Specific ASO: Partner with the International Expansion team to localize and optimize listings for priority markets.
  • Extension Store Optimization
    • Extension Visibility: Own QuillBot's presence and discoverability in the Chrome Web Store, Safari Extensions Gallery, Microsoft Edge Add-ons, and Firefox Add-ons.
    • Listing & CRO: Optimize extension titles, descriptions, screenshots, and feature graphics. Improve install conversion rates through iterative testing.
    • Ratings & Review Strategy: Drive rating volume and quality for extensions. Coordinate with Product and Support to address negative feedback and reduce churn.
    • Cross-Channel Synergy: Align extension store strategy with SEO and ASO efforts to create a unified organic discovery experience across web, app, and extension surfaces.
  • Analytics, Reporting & Insights
    • Performance Measurement: Build and maintain dashboards tracking organic performance across all channels (SEO, ASO, GEO, Extension Stores). Define KPIs and ensure the team is data-driven in decision-making.
    • Executive Reporting: Deliver regular performance updates and strategic insights to senior leadership. Translate complex organic data into clear narratives with actionable recommendations.
    • Tool Stack: Evaluate and manage the organic growth tool stack (e.g., Google Analytics, Google Search Console, SEMrush, Ahrefs, Sensor Tower, Screaming Frog, etc).

Qualifications

  • 8–10 years of progressive experience in SEO and/or organic growth, with at least 3 years in a people-management role.
  • Global experience: demonstrated ability to drive organic growth across multiple markets, regions, and languages—not limited to English-speaking audiences.
  • Demonstrated success managing organic growth for a high-traffic website (+20M monthly active users) and a consumer app with significant install volume.
  • Proven track record of securing and defending #1 positions for competitive keywords
  • Proven ability to build organic visibility from zero for new product launches in highly competitive markets — taking a product from no search presence to top-ranking positions against established incumbents.
  • Deep expertise across on-page, off-page, and technical SEO, with a strong grasp of how search engines crawl, index, and rank content.
  • Hands-on experience with ASO for iOS and/or Android apps, including keyword optimization, listing experiments, and review management.
  • Strong understanding of the generative AI search landscape and emerging GEO best practices.
  • Proficiency with industry tools: Google Analytics, Google Search Console, SEMrush, Ahrefs, Screaming Frog, and at least one ASO platform (preferably Sensor Tower).
  • Experience working with CMS platforms (e.g., WordPress) and comfort with basic HTML/CSS.
  • Excellent communicator who can present data-driven strategies to senior leadership, including C-level stakeholders.
  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Business, Communications, or a related field.
