Product Owner For Linux Virtualization

The Red Hat Linux Virtualization team is looking for a Product Owner with deep technical acumen to steer the strategy for hardware enablement and core virtualization components.

Work in a team of engineers that design and develop functionality deep within the kernel, firmware, and device emulation layers of KVM, QEMU, providing the strategic direction and backlog prioritization bridging between hardware vendors, layered products in Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Red Hat OpenShift Virtualization, fortune 500 enterprise customers.

You will have strategic responsibilities to define what we build and why, ensuring that Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and Red Hat OpenShift Virtualization remain the premier platforms for next-generation hardware.

In this role, you will synthesize requirements by interacting with major hardware partners e.g., Intel, AMD, ARM, NVIDIA, HPE and translate them into actionable engineering backlogs. You will navigate the complexity of open-source upstream development while delivering stable, enterprise-grade features for our downstream products.

What Will You Do?

Drive the engineering delivery for KVM, and QEMU by managing sprint priorities and unblocking dependencies to ensure timely Hardware Enablement.

Translate high-level strategy into actionable deliverables—from setting the long-term roadmap to defining detailed user stories—ensuring all output meets mission-critical quality assurance standards.

Serve as the primary technical liaison between hardware partners and internal teams to synchronize processor roadmaps and validate readiness for next-gen platform features.

Navigate the complex dynamics of upstream communities QEMU, Linux Kernel to synchronize community innovation with internal product roadmaps and downstream goals.

What Will You Bring?

Strength in prioritizing development work while managing product management, hardware partner and other stakeholder expectations.

Ability to resolve conflicting priorities and communicate key insights from multiple sources (e.g., partner roadmaps, technical discussions, community input) to stakeholders and engineering teams.

5+ years of experience in a software development or product ownership role, preferably in an Agile or Scrum environment.

Technical domain knowledge of the Linux Virtualization stack KVM, QEMU, libvirt and Computer Architecture x86_64, s390x, aarch64.

Ability to translate "low-level kernel speak" into business value for stakeholders, and conversely, translate business goals into technical requirements for engineers.

Excellent written and verbal skills in English.

The Following Are Considered A Plus :

Experience with Jira, GitHub, GitLab, or similar tools.

Experience with open-source development practices and understanding how to influence roadmaps in a community-driven environment.

Previous experience as a systems software engineer or kernel developer (C/C++, Rust).

Knowledge of emerging hardware technologies (e.g., Confidential Computing, CXL, AI/ML Accelerators).

Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) or similar credentials.
