Electrical Designer I – High Voltage Switchgear

We have an exciting opportunity for an Electrical Designer I to join a dynamic engineering team focused on developing electrical control drawing packages for high-voltage switchgear and power-switching devices. This role is perfect for someone with strong AutoCAD skills, a solid understanding of electrical control systems, and the ability to collaborate across departments to ensure technical accuracy and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

• Apply electrical drafting and design fundamentals to produce high-quality wiring diagrams and schematic sets for control, motor, and heater circuits.
• Follow applicable standards, including ANSI, IEEE, ASTM, ASCE, AWS, and CSA.
• Serve as a technical resource, providing solutions to internal teams and customers throughout the engineering process.
• Coordinate with sales, manufacturing, vendors, and customers to ensure project requirements are met.
• Troubleshoot and resolve wiring and installation issues.
• Document and communicate engineering changes in line with standard practices.
• Maintain accurate project records and generate ongoing status reports.
• Identify customer needs and potential engineering improvements.
• Travel to project sites for sales support, startup assistance, integration, and training as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering OR at least 5 years of CAD drafting experience.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD.
• Fundamental understanding of electrical control and protection systems.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.

Preferred Experience

• Background in power systems and/or high-voltage switchgear.
• Experience producing wiring diagrams and schematics for control systems using relays and wiring rather than computer engineering focus.
