Design Draftsperson

The Energy Minerals unit, based in Alexandria, has a Technical Services team with extensive experience providing a wide range of mechanical sampling services to the coal and minerals industry, including the design, manufacture, and supply of sampling systems. We currently have an opening for a Design Draftsperson.

Job Description

As a Design Draftsperson, you will play a key role in the design and development of mechanical sampling systems and equipment. You will be responsible for preparing engineering calculations, concept designs, 3D modeling, general arrangements, and detailed designs, including minor structural work. You will also liaise with clients and suppliers regarding drawing issues and ensure all designs meet project and industry standards.

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Preparing arrangement and detailed drawings using AutoCAD 2D/3D and the latest Inventor release for mechanical sampling projects.
  • Issuing accurate manufacturing drawings to fabricators.
  • Reviewing and checking drawings generated by others to ensure compliance with relevant standards and SGS/project specifications.
  • Using existing Inventor models from the SGS library to streamline the process from concept to detailed manufacturing drawings.
  • Delivering designs and drawings within agreed project schedules, maintaining high accuracy and minimizing errors.
  • Adhering to all relevant standards and ensuring engineering calculations are correct.
  • Liaising effectively with clients and suppliers regarding drawings as required.

Qualifications

To succeed in this role, you will bring:

  • A high level of proficiency with AutoCAD and Inventor, with extensive relevant experience in mechanical design.
  • Strong experience in engineering design and calculations, applying your technical knowledge to deliver accurate and practical solutions.
  • Evidence of tertiary qualifications in Mechanical Engineering, a Mechanical Engineering Certificate, or a relevant trade qualification.
  • Draftsperson experience, preferably in mechanical or industrial projects.
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office skills.
  • A current driver's license.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with clients, suppliers, and colleagues.
