The OSS & Automation Department at Rakuten Mobile Inc. plays a critical role in the company's innovative and disruptive approach to telecommunications. As the world's first fully virtualized, cloud-native mobile network, the OSS (Operations Support Systems) and Automation functions are foundational to the entire operational model. The primary mission of this department is to design, develop, implement, and operate systems and processes for the efficient and automated management of Rakuten Mobile's entire network lifecycle, from planning and deployment to monitoring, troubleshooting, and optimization.
This role is key to ensuring network uptime, minimizing service outages, and providing a seamless experience for telecommunications operators by defining and articulating a compelling product vision and strategy for fault monitor solutions, aligned with company goals and market opportunities. It involves staying ahead of industry trends, emerging technologies (e.g., AI/ML for anomaly detection, 5G network slicing), and competitor offerings in telecommunication fault monitoring.
As Product Manager for Telecommunication Fault Monitor Product, this is a key leadership role responsible for the end-to-end product lifecycle of network fault management and monitoring solutions. This involves defining the product vision, strategy, and roadmap based on market needs, customer pain points, and business objectives.
Key duties include:
- Define and articulate a compelling product vision and strategy for the fault monitor solution, aligning it with company goals and market opportunities. Develop and maintain a strategic product roadmap, prioritizing features and capabilities based on customer value, business impact, and technical feasibility.
- Conduct in-depth market research, competitive analysis, and customer interactions to identify new opportunities, validate product concepts, and understand user needs and pain points.
- Translate product strategy into detailed product requirements, user stories, and specifications (PRDs). Work closely with engineering, UX/UI design, and other technical teams using Agile methodologies to manage the product backlog and ensure timely and high-quality product delivery. Act as the voice of the customer within the development team. Oversee the entire product lifecycle from ideation to retirement.
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and product usage data to make data-driven decisions and identify areas for improvement. Drive increased automation coverage and reduction in manual change/error rates. Optimize automated processes for performance and efficiency.
- Collaborate with product marketing to develop go-to-market strategies. Act as a product evangelist, providing technical and commercial expertise to sales teams, channel partners, and customers, and supporting sales cycles.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's/Master's degree in technical fields such as Telecommunications, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. An MBA is a plus.
- Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in product management, with a strong preference for experience in telecommunications, network management, or enterprise software.
- Deep understanding of telecommunications network architectures (e.g., 4G/LTE, 5G, fiber, cable) and protocols. Knowledge of fault monitoring and management concepts, including alarm correlation, root cause analysis, performance monitoring, and service assurance.
- Familiarity with network management systems (NMS) and standard APIs/protocols (e.g., SNMP, webhook, UMP, OBF). Experience with cloud-native technologies, microservices, and containers (e.g., Kubernetes, Docker). Knowledge of AI/ML applications in network operations (AIOps).
- Proven ability to manage the full product lifecycle and successfully bring products to market.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with technical teams, executives, and external stakeholders. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a data-driven approach to decision-making.
- Experience with agile development tools such as Jira, Confluence. Proven track record of working with global and remote teams. Familiarity with Cloud (AWS/Azure/GCP), Networking (VPC/VNet, ALB/ELB/NGINX, WAF, DNS/CDN), Containers/Orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes/OpenShift; Service Mesh a plus), and Observability (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK/OpenSearch, Datadog/New Relic, Open Telemetry).
