Our Vancouver office is seeking a Design Manager responsible for leading the design management of major projects across North America. May manage technical employees, work planning, technical design management and oversight, project delivery, quality management, contract administration, change management, risk management and client relationships.

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to initiatives to help advance our project design, operations, and business development
  • Work in a manner to protect the health and safety of Stantec employees, clients, and the public by following company health, safety and security guidelines and policies
  • Maintain and enhance our reputation with clients, approval agencies and industry professionals as outstanding service providers
  • May manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Establish project objectives, procedures, and performance standards
  • Lead multi-disciplinary teams on major projects from positioning to proposals, planning studies, feasibility through final designs, and construction services
  • Responsible for day-to-day design management activities related to integration of workflows and efforts across Stantec Design Stream Teams, and subconsultants
  • Supports the Project Management Team in coordination and advancement of the consultant team's work to meet objectives, deliverables requirements, and contractual obligations
  • Assist the Project Manager with resource planning to ensure all design-related resource needs for the project are fully met
  • Monitor the performance of external consultants
  • Be the key person and point of contact, performing designer quality manager roles on major projects
  • Represent Stantec and the project design team as a technical leader on major projects
  • Identify appropriate resources and skill sets to achieve project objectives. Manage contract tasks, track, and manage costs and schedule, and implement measures necessary to stay on schedule and within budget
  • Drive solutions to increase probability of winning work and promote technical innovation
  • Lead by example with active support of internal policies and practices, including risk management, project management, and quality management
  • Grow internal and external networks to enhance Stantec reputation and identify additional talent to join our team
  • Develop client relationships to facilitate project activities
  • Establish, maintain, and promote partnerships in project pursuits

Your Capabilities and Credentials:

  • Experience with design management of large complex projects in BC or nationally
  • Experience leading the design and construction support of major projects including APD projects.
  • Experience in the preparation of presentations utilizing PowerPoint
  • Experience developing, negotiating, and managing project scopes, schedules, and budgets
  • Business development and marketing skills experience required
  • Ability to lead, motivate, mentor, and develop a team of technical and professional staff
  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients and colleagues in a dynamic and energetic environment
  • General understanding of core and shell and interiors design and construction.
  • Experience managing large complex projects (Healthcare, Commercial, Retail, Aviation, Transportation, Education, and Justice).
  • Demonstrated experience in Alternative Project Delivery models
  • Education and Experience - Minimum of fifteen (15) years of progressive engineering and design management experience on large complex projects, including APD projects
  • Bachelor or Master's degree in architecture, engineering, interior design, or equivalent in work experience required from an accredited institution
  • Previous experience leading and managing technical/project teams

Pay Range: Locations in Lower Mainland - BC, GTA & Ottawa Ontario-$136,300.00 - $204,500.00 Annually

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
