Your Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design and layout of fire protection systems including fire sprinkler, fire alarm, and clean agent suppression systems
  • Perform basic engineering calculations including hydraulic calculations, pipe sizing, and system flow analysis
  • Support development of construction documents, drawings, and specifications using Revit/BIM
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (mechanical, electrical, architectural) to coordinate system integration and routing
  • Review shop drawings and submittals for compliance with design intent, codes, and project specifications
  • Assist with building and fire code analysis, including application of NFPA standards and life safety requirements
  • Participate in site visits to verify existing conditions and observe construction progress
  • Support preparation of reports, technical documentation, and design narratives
  • Assist with project coordination, scheduling, and communication with internal teams and external partners
  • Contribute to quality control processes and uphold Stantec's standards for technical excellence and safety

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Basic understanding of fire protection engineering principles, fluid dynamics, and system design
  • Familiarity with NFPA codes and standards and life safety design concepts
  • Proficiency in Revit (required); AutoCAD and BIM experience is a plus
  • Exposure to fire modeling tools (e.g., FDS, CFAST, Pathfinder) is a plus
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to producing high-quality work
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification preferred, or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire
  • Eagerness to learn, grow, and pursue Professional Engineer (PE) licensure

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Fire Protection Engineering (preferred), Mechanical Engineering, or related engineering discipline from an ABET-accredited program
  • 0–2 years of experience in fire protection, plumbing, or building systems design (internship experience preferred)
  • Exposure to building systems design, code analysis, or consulting engineering environments is a plus
