Principal Digital Designer (BIM Modelling - bentley Openbuildings)

BIM Modeller / Digital Designer

We're looking for an experienced BIM Modeller / Digital Designer with strong capability in Bentley OpenBuildings Designer (OBD) to join our digital delivery team on a major infrastructure programme. This role is central to producing coordinated 3D models for utility infrastructure—primarily water mains, duct routes, and associated services—within a Bentley-based environment fully aligned with the client's ProjectWise standards.

You'll work with Bentley OpenBuildings Designer 2023 to ensure seamless compatibility with the project's Common Data Environment, contributing to high-quality, well-structured models that support engineering design, spatial coordination, and construction planning. Your work will help shape accurate digital representations of utility networks and support wider construction logistics modelling for sequencing and visualisation.

You will be involved with:

• Developing, modifying, and coordinating 3D utility infrastructure models in Bentley OBD, including water mains, ducts, and service routes.
• Creating and managing reusable BIM components (families / cells) to support consistent modelling across the project.
• Working within a ProjectWise Common Data Environment, ensuring correct file management, version control, and model publishing.
• Setting up and managing levels, grids, references, and model hierarchies to maintain structured, compliant model outputs.
• Producing 2D drawings, sections, and documentation directly from the 3D model environment.
• Applying model validation and quality-control processes to ensure alignment with project standards and data requirements.
• Supporting construction logistics modelling, helping visualise site layouts, access, and sequencing.

This is an opportunity to play a key role in the digital delivery of a nationally significant infrastructure project. You'll work within a collaborative digital engineering team, contribute to high-impact design outputs, and help shape the project's approach to coordinated 3D modelling and construction visualisation.

To be successful in this role you will need to have:

• Strong, hands-on experience with Bentley OpenBuildings Designer, particularly for infrastructure and utility modelling.
• Proven ability to develop pipework and utility routing layouts, with an understanding of engineering principles for water and basic utility services.
• Experience working within ProjectWise on large infrastructure programmes.
• A solid grasp of model structuring, file organisation, and digital workflows in a multi-disciplinary environment.
• A proactive approach to coordination, problem-solving, and maintaining high modelling standards.
