Senior Engineer / Design Manager

Are you ready to lead transformative design efforts that improve communities and protect vital resources? We're seeking a Senior Engineer / Design Manager to join our growing Water team in Portland, Oregon. In this role, you'll guide multidisciplinary design teams to deliver innovative, constructible, and sustainable solutions across a diverse portfolio of water infrastructure projects. You'll collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, manage design schedules and deliverables, and ensure technical excellence throughout the project lifecycle. What You'll Be Doing

  • Design Coordination: Lead and integrate inputs from civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, and process engineering disciplines to deliver cohesive and constructible designs.
  • Project Management: Develop and manage design schedules, budgets, and deliverables in alignment with overall project timelines and client expectations.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Facilitate communication between clients, consultants, contractors, and internal teams to resolve design issues and align expectations.
  • Quality Assurance: Review design documents for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable codes, standards, and project requirements.
  • Risk Management: Identify design-related risks and implement mitigation strategies early in the project lifecycle.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Maintain organized records of design decisions, revisions, and approvals; prepare regular progress reports for leadership and clients.
  • Technical Leadership: Mentor and guide design team members, fostering collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.

What You Bring

  • Proven experience leading complex design efforts across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and drive results in a collaborative environment.
  • Passion for technical excellence and mentoring emerging professionals.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, science, or a related technical field.
  • Minimum 15 years of relevant experience in water infrastructure design and project delivery.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • Experience with municipal, industrial, or federal water projects preferred.

Compensation and Benefits

In accordance with pay transparency laws, compensation will be based on your education, experience, and location. Regular full-time and part-time employees (20+ hours/week) enjoy access to:

Pay Range: Locations in MN, VT, & Various CA, NY Areas - Min Salary $124,800.00 - Max Salary $187,200.00

Benefits Summary: Regular full-time and part-time employees (working at least 20 hours per week) have access to medical, dental, and vision plans, a wellness program, health saving accounts, flexible spending accounts, 401(k) plan, employee stock purchase program, life and accidental death & dismemberment (AD&D) insurance, short-term/long-term disability plans, emergency travel benefits, tuition reimbursement, professional membership fee coverage and paid family leave. Regular full-time and part-time employees will receive ten paid holidays in each calendar year. In addition, employees will be eligible to accrue vacation between 10 and 20 days per year and eligible for paid sick leave (and if more generous, in accordance with state and local law). Temporary/casual employees have access to 401(k) plans, employee stock purchase program, and paid leave, in accordance with state and local law.
