Transportation Designer Opportunity

Your Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Transportation Designer to join our Alberta Transportation team in our Calgary office. This individual will work independently on smaller projects, and as a team member on larger projects under the guidance of a Senior Engineer. The position will include work on a variety of Transportation projects with a focus on Airports. This opportunity is ideal for a motivated individual who is a self-starter, passionate about working with people, and wants to be involved in exciting local, regional, national, and international projects.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • With guidance, perform geometric design and 3D modeling.
  • Support development of conceptual, preliminary, and detailed design plans.
  • Assist with preparation of technical specifications and quantity estimates.
  • Assist with the preparation of engineering reports and technical studies, including basic calculations.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines to ensure interdisciplinary design integration.
  • Follow applicable standards, quality assurance and quality control procedures during the design process.
  • Undertake field reviews to support engineering and construction administration activities.
  • Work to meet project timelines and budgets.
  • Assist with project coordination, project pursuits, and proposal preparation.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

Basic understanding of general civil design concepts in relevant areas. Basic understanding of modelling software and knowledge of calculations performed by the software or software savvy with aspirations to develop 3D modeling skillset. Proficient with the Microsoft Office suite. Self-motivated individual with the ability to work in a team environment. Desire to work in a fast-past environment. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Strong attention to detail and accuracy. A valid Class 5 driver's license.

Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related field. Minimum of 0 – 2 years of industry experience; intern experience preferred. Registered as an EIT in the Province of Alberta or ability to become registered within 6 months of start date.

Position will primarily work in an office setting but may require some field work.
