Technical Designer I

A Technical Designer I plays a crucial role in translating conceptual designs into detailed documentation. Working closely with architects and other interior design professionals, you will contribute to the technical aspects of projects, ensuring accuracy, compliance with building codes, and the successful execution of designs. This position participates in every part of the design and construction process and requires a strong understanding of architectural principles, construction techniques, and the ability to use various design software tools to convey design intent.

Responsibilities

Conceptualization & Design Development:

  • Assist in the visiting, coordination and documentation of existing conditions of projects.
  • Documenting and translating field notes and surveys into workable drawing files for the project team.
  • Collaborate openly with architects and other design team members to develop and refine design concepts into practical and buildable solutions.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, building codes, and regulations in all design documentation and design phases.
  • Assist in solving technical challenges and provide solutions to design issues that may arise during the project lifecycle.

Technical Documentation:

  • Demonstrate proficiency in architectural detailing, construction techniques & documentation.
  • Translate conceptual designs into detailed drawings and specifications.
  • Independently performs a variety of assignments requiring skills in all aspects of architectural designs for projects of small to moderate size and complexity.
  • Assist in performing analyses of design, planning, and occupancy studies, and limited design layouts.
  • Prepare project specifications with assistance from interior designers, compiling and analyzing relevant technical data for the team.
  • Assist in the preparation of permit documentation and the permit procurement process.
  • Create accurate and detailed construction documents using industry standard software (Vectorworks, AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, etc.).
  • Develop comprehensive and coordinated sets of design and construction drawings, including plans, elevations, sections, and details.
  • Produce drawings for review and mark ups for quality control.

Client Interaction:

  • Collaborate with colleagues and senior architects in client meetings to understand their needs and present design solutions.
  • Provide excellent customer service and address client interactions with professionalism and creativity.

Vendor & Consultant Coordination:

  • Assist in the coordination with suppliers, manufacturers, and vendors to source and procure construction materials, fixtures, and other finishes.
  • Collaborate with project architects, engineering consultants, contractors, and other stakeholders to address technical aspects of the project and integrate various design disciplines into cohesive sets of documents.
  • Participate in coordination meetings to address technical issues and ensure project continuity.

Project Support:

  • Support the project team in various tasks, including site visits, installations, and project closeouts.
  • Collaborate effectively with fellow team members, architects, and other professionals to ensure a cohesive and integrated approach to design.
  • Collaborate with other team members to ensure projects are completed within established timelines and budgets.
  • Assist in the preparation of specifications and material selections.
  • Communicate effectively with internal team members, consultants, and clients.
  • Participate in design and coordination meetings, providing technical insights and solutions.
  • Assist in resolving technical challenges during the construction phase.
  • Effectively communicate technical details and requirements to both internal and external team members.
  • Assist in client presentations, explaining technical aspects of the design when necessary.

Quality Assurance & Control:

  • Conduct preliminary reviews of construction documents to ensure accuracy, completeness, and adherence to firm standards & coordination checklists.
  • Participate in quality control processes to identify and rectify any errors or discrepancies in the documentation.

Professional Development:

  • Stay up to date on industry trends, materials, and technologies to enhance design knowledge, skills and professional development.
  • Stay informed and up to date with local building codes, regulations, and industry standards to ensure that designs comply with all relevant guidelines.
  • Attend relevant workshops, seminars, and training programs as required.
