The Sr. Director, External Manufacturing Performance & Productivity will lead crucial projects in global operations, planning, and supply chain management for contract manufacturing and OEMs. Key responsibilities for this role include leading contract manufacturer strategy (make vs. buy), and driving day-to-day operational performance. This role involves influencing across Thermo Fisher's Divisions to drive cost reduction, and enhancing co-manufacturing and OEM excellence in operations. This role will also manage the consolidated demand and capacity planning for major contract manufacturers tied to Division strategic plan. The role requires a deep understanding of manufacturing, testing, supply chain, procurement, operations intervention as well as a strong focus on cost analysis, financial modeling, and stakeholder management.
What you will do?
- Offer strategic aid to divisions to enhance global operations and secure value, especially concerning contract manufacturing and OEMs, with a focus on P&L impact and operational excellence.
- Collaborate closely with Procurement Category teams and contribute insights to their category strategy for OEMs and contact manufacturing suppliers.
- Work closely with divisions to structure and mobilize resources around co-manufacturing or cost-out and value engineering related initiatives, ensuring effective execution.
- Lead strategic evaluations and decisions regarding contract manufacturing footprint and make/buy options to optimize cost and efficiency.
- Assist both Divisional and Procurement Category teams in finding opportunities to use OEMs, and develop strategies for onboarding, operating, and managing OEM partners.
- Coordinate product and technology transfers between co-manufacturers and internal sites for seamless transitions.
- Direct teams in the creation of tools, analysis execution, and oversight of contract manufacturing and OEM demand signal planning, forecasting, and consolidation, while also steering a proactive capacity planning schedule.
- Collaborate with Division Operations on the qualification of co-manufacturing sites and the development of advanced supplier engineering capabilities to improve supply chain robustness.
- Improve co-manufacturing performance through the demonstration of provider strengths for increased value capture, cost savings, and high service level delivery.
- Direct the build-out, management and sustainment of a technical and operational documentation library, ensuring their accuracy and accessibility, for both internal teams and external co-manufacturing partners.
- Implement robust risk management tools, strategies for contract manufacturing to mitigate potential supply risks and ensure governmental compliance.
- Establish a formalized playbook for external manufacturing with standard procedures, tools, and resources
Qualifications:
- 15+ years of relevant industry experience, including co-manufacturing, supply chain, costing, process improvement, and engineering.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in engineering, business, or related field; MBA preferred.
- Outstanding communication skills, capable of delivering clear messages to diverse audiences.
- Extensive experience managing operations in large geographical regions, ensuring profitability and margin optimization.
- Skilled in building strategic partnerships, technology integration, and digital transformation.
- Proven success in leading operations and cost transformation initiatives.
- Experience merging operational insights, consumer behavior, and market research into strategy.
- Outstanding problem-solving capabilities.
