Lead Design & Approval Manager- Guwahati

The Lead Design & Approval Manager will be responsible for end-to-end design coordination, technical approvals, and statutory clearances for assigned projects. The role requires strong technical expertise, cross-functional coordination, and deep familiarity with approval processes to ensure timely and compliant project execution.

Key Responsibilities

Design Management

  • Lead and manage design development activities across all disciplines in line with project requirements, codes, and standards.
  • Coordinate with external consultants, architects, and design agencies to ensure accuracy, constructability, and cost optimization.
  • Review drawings, technical specifications, calculations, and design deliverables to ensure compliance with contractual and statutory requirements.
  • Ensure timely design freeze aligned with project timelines and execution plans.

Approvals & Statutory Coordination

  • Plan and manage design approvals from clients, PMC, and consultants within defined timelines.
  • Liaise with local authorities, government bodies, and statutory agencies for drawings and design approvals.
  • Track approvals, comments, and revisions, ensuring closure without impacting construction schedules.
  • Maintain documentation and logs of all approvals and NOCs.

Inter-Departmental Coordination

  • Work closely with construction, planning, procurement, contracts, and QA/QC teams to address design-related queries and constructability issues.
  • Support site teams with technical clarifications, revisions, and shop drawings during execution.
  • Ensure seamless coordination between design intent and site execution.

Risk, Quality & Compliance

  • Identify design-related risks and recommend mitigation measures.
  • Ensure adherence to applicable codes, standards, safety norms, and environmental regulations.
  • Participate in technical reviews, value engineering, and design optimization initiatives.

Team Leadership & Process Improvement

  • Lead and mentor a team of design engineers and coordinators.
  • Establish robust design management and approval workflows, trackers, and reporting mechanisms.
  • Drive continuous improvement in design coordination and approval turnaround times.

Key Skills & Competencies

  • Strong technical knowledge in design coordination and engineering approvals.
  • Proficiency in review of structural, architectural, and MEP designs (as relevant to the project).
  • Excellent understanding of local statutory approval processes, especially in the North-East region.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple approvals in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Proficient in design and documentation tools such as AutoCAD, Revit (preferred), MS Office, and tracking systems.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering / Architecture (Master's degree preferred).
  • 12+ years of relevant experience in design management and approvals for large-scale infrastructure or construction projects.
  • Prior experience handling projects in Assam / North-East India will be an added advantage.
