Release Manager
The Release Manager oversees the end-to-end release lifecycle for new products, features, and updates—from development through commercial launch. This role ensures production releases for products and clients are predictable, operationally safe, reliable, and with minimal risk. The Release Manager partners closely with Program Management Office, Product Management, Engineering, DevOps, QA, and Support teams to coordinate release activities, mitigate risks, and ensure a smooth transition from development to production and the commercial market.
Release Planning & Coordination
- Manage release schedules across multiple product lines and platforms, ensuring consistency and traceability; coordinating with all stakeholders. Align cross-functional teams on timelines, deliverables, and dependencies.
- Releases also include customized releases to Client environments that use a base product release but contain some customizations.
- Coordinate with DevOps to plan Infrastructure impacts
- Coordinate deployments to production or commercial distribution channels.
- Ensure post-release validation, quick issue resolution, and smooth handover to support teams.
- Focus on Risk mitigation and avoid escalations
- Coordinate resource allocation and identify bottlenecks or risks that may impact release timelines.
- Ensure all release artifacts (specifications, validation results, documentation) are complete and approved.
- Validate that each release meets quality, compliance, and security standards.
- Ensure thorough test planning, execution, and acceptance across engineering and QA teams.
- Track and report defects, risks, and mitigation plans with transparency and urgency.
Stakeholder Communication
- Primary point of contact for release communications.
- Provide clear and timely updates on release status, risks, changes, and launch criteria.
- Collaborate with Marketing, Sales, and Commercial teams to ensure go-to-market materials and readiness activities are completed.
Continuous Improvement
- Analyze release performance and lead post-release reviews to identify improvement opportunities.
- Refine tools, processes, and automation to increase release efficiency, predictability, and quality.
- Influence best practices in DevOps, CI/CD, and release automation to accelerate delivery.
You Will Be Successful In This Role If You Have:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Business, or related field.
- 5–7+ years of experience in release management for product development, or software delivery.
- Strong understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC) and agile methodologies.
- Demonstrated ability to lead Production release of commercial products with multiple, inter-dependent development streams
- Experience coordinating cross-functional teams in fast-paced environments.
- Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Familiarity with tools such as Azure DevOps, Git and CI/CD pipelines
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience launching products into commercial or regulated markets.
- Certification(s) such as ScrumMaster, ITIL, or PMP could also be a plus.
- Working knowledge of DevOps practices, automation tools, and release orchestration platforms.
