Why The Role Matters:

The role of Higher Education Analyst will provide critical analysis and synthesis of a range of higher education topics across the Education Portfolio in the Faculty of Arts, Design & Architecture at UNSW Sydney. The role will be responsible for designing, conducting, and interpreting high-quality analyses of government and industry reports and associated academic literature on contemporary topics in the Australian higher education sector. The role will also be responsible for synthesizing these analyses to produce professional quality technical reports, briefing papers, presentations, and associated materials. This role reports to the Deputy Dean (Education).

Accountabilities:

  • Design and conduct analyses of government and industry reports, policy documents, and associated academic literature on contemporary educational topics in the context of the Australian higher education sector.
  • Efficiently source, analyse, and interpret complex and interrelated data from government, industry, and academic sources.
  • Identify, analyse, and interpret complex information from multiple sources in relation to higher education projects and initiatives in the education portfolio.
  • Demonstrates applied knowledge of higher education policy, data, and associated methodologies. Uses analytical tools and research techniques to deliver insights.
  • Maintains awareness of sector trends, risks, and opportunities.
  • Produce professional quality technical reports, briefing papers, presentations, and associated materials for academic and professional audiences and leaders.
  • Work independently and in diverse collaborative environments to deliver high-quality outputs within set timeframes, while applying sound judgment to prioritise tasks and manage competing demands. Demonstrate flexibility and collegiality in achieving shared goals.
  • Apply evidence-based approaches to develop insights and recommendations.
  • Identify improvements to iterative processes, methodologies, and outputs.
  • Seeks feedback and actively develops expertise in higher education research and analysis.
  • Align behaviour with UNSW's values, including diversity, inclusion, respect, and sustainability and actively demonstrate the Code of Conduct and Values.

Skills and Experience:

To be considered you will hold Australian Working Rights or Australian Citizenship. Visa sponsorship is not available for this appointment. (please review the Position Description for a full list of Skills and Experience)

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or equivalent level of professional knowledge gained through education, training, and/or experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in conducting literature reviews, data analysis, policy analysis and producing professional research outputs in an education, policy, or research environment.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to interpret complex datasets and policy documents.
  • Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to tailor outputs for academic, professional, and senior executive audiences.
  • Proven ability to manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality outputs within tight deadlines.
  • High-level interpersonal and consultation skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across teams and with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in online research tools as well as the Microsoft office suite.
  • Knowledge of the higher education sector, policy environment, and strategic challenges affecting universities.
  • Demonstrates applied knowledge of higher education policy, data, and associated methodologies.
