Leadership Position Available at the Institute of Design, Media, and Educational Science

A leadership position is available at the Institute of Design, Media, and Educational Science's secretariat to be filled as soon as possible.

Location: Odense

The Institute of Design, Media, and Educational Science is one of two institutes at the Faculty of Humanities, SDU. The institute has 150 employees, located in Kolding, Odense, and Sønderborg.

The institute covers research and teaching in a wide range of areas, including library science, design studies, philosophy, information science, media science, educational science, corporate and organizational communication, and web communication. Research dissemination and international cooperation play a major role, as the institute houses a number of externally funded projects within the various fields of expertise.

The secretariat consists of 22 employees who support the institute's research and educational activities. The secretariat also plays a central role in the institute's Continuing and Further Education activities in relation to course development, consultant courses, and education as well as implementation and administration. The Theoretical Pedagogical Institute for Secondary School Teachers is also anchored at the secretariat with responsibility for professional development and administration of the education. The secretariat employees have work locations in Kolding and Odense, and the secretariat leader will therefore have workdays in both places. The distribution will be agreed upon at the time of employment.

The secretariat leader is part of the institute's management group, which in addition to the secretariat leader consists of the institute director and two deputy institute directors. The secretariat leader is thus a sparring partner for the institute director and deputy institute directors in strategy and change processes as well as in the work on processes for governance in relation to goals and action plans for the entire institute. In addition, the secretariat leader plays a central role in the cooperation between institutes and faculty.

Responsibilities The secretariat leader is responsible for the daily management, operation, and development of the institute's administrative functions. Among other things, this involves the following tasks:

  1. Human Resources Management for TAP, including recruitment, daily management, and ensuring ambitious career and competence development of the institute secretariat employees
  2. Ensuring and developing effective cooperation internally within the institute and across the secretariat teams and institute locations
  3. Ensuring and developing effective cooperation across the humanities institute secretariats in collaboration with the secretariat leader at the Institute for Culture and Language Studies
  4. Overall financial management in close cooperation with the institute director, including budget planning, budget monitoring, and reporting
  5. Arranging and developing the digitalization of workflows and tasks
  6. Coordinating cooperation with the faculty and university's administrative units

Furthermore, the secretariat leader assists the institute director in the preparation of position papers, contracts, consultation responses, strategy proposals, reports, etc.

Candidate Profile

We envision that you:

  • have solid management experience, preferably from the university sector
  • have experience with human resources management
  • have good collaboration skills and the ability to navigate a complex organization
  • thrive with both development and operational tasks
  • have insight into university economics

Due to the institute's special portfolio of tasks within the education sector, knowledge of and interest in this will be an advantage.
