WSP is seeking a Design Services During Construction Manager to join the dynamic transportation team in CA.
This person will be working out of a combination of the project field office in Los Angeles County, CA and a Los Angeles or Orange County WSP office in Southern California.
Your Impact
Serve as a lead design manager during construction of a major freeway project in Los Angeles County involving bridge widening, freeway widening, drainage improvements, retaining walls, sound walls, sign and toll infrastructure, ITS electrical and building infrastructure, landscaping and utility relocations.
Correspond effectively with design technical discipline leads to deliver responses to requests for information (RFIs), SHOP drawings, and transmittals from the construction management team in a timely manner.
Correspond effectively with Metro's construction managers, project controls staff, Contractor's construction manager, and construction supervisors to appropriately express the intent of the design and respond formally to RFIs and other transmittals.
Effectively manage the design effort within the available budget and communicate regularly with the design project manager and design discipline leads.
Working closely with the design task leads and project manager to assess assertions from the field on the design and propose adjustments in conjunction with technical discipline leads to reflect design intent.
Be the primary point of contact between the Metro construction management team and technical discipline design leads and project manager.
Actively use Metro's Unifier system to receive and download RFIs, SHOP drawings and other transmittals and to provide responses and upload using the same system established by the construction management project controls team.
Review in a timely manner shop drawings, working drawings and other submittals to supplement design team review; take on as much of this workload as practicable and forwarding to relevant design leads when needed.
Manage and oversee drawing revisions to ensure integrity of design intent. Perform quality checks on new drawings or drawing markups to verify intent of the RFI response is being met. If multiple RFIs affect the same design, compile all information prior to request sheet changes to emphasize efficiency.
Participate in field meetings as necessary.
Review weekly hours/costs and monthly reports; prepare monthly status reports.
Oversee As-Built Drawing production
Communicate trends, successes and concerns to the design project manager
Understand project design and construction requirements), contract drawings, plans issued for construction, Design Quality Plan, PMP, and all other pertinent documents
Assist design project manager in preparation of invoices and progress reports
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, or closely related discipline.
12+ years of relevant post education experience within the industry.
Engineer license preferred.
Prior experience performing DSDC
Advanced proficiency with infrastructure design.
Technical expertise in additional fields such as bridge design/construction, roadway design/construction, MOT, utilities or drainage is preferred.
Works independently and provides guidance and leadership to mid-level to senior level team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.
Excellent leadership and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to effectively, persuasively, and tactfully interact with employees at all levels of the organization.
Tactical lateral thinking and strong analytical skills with attention to detail and prioritization of responsibilities in a pressure work environment.
Highly organized and methodical at approaching shifting priorities
Ability to elicit cooperation from a wide variety of sources, including senior management, clients, regulators, and company-wide staff, including those with whom no formal hierarchical relationship exits.
Advanced proficiency with office automation to facilitate formal communications (e.g. Word, Excel, Adobe, Bluebeam, Microstation is desirable)
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
Strong ability to quickly adapt to change and demonstrate flexibility to a variety of schedules and hours to meet business needs.
Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Compensation:
Expected Salary (all locations): $167,800 - $249,150
