Location: Ogden, UT

Salary: $120,000 - $176,000

Anticipated Contract Length: 3 years with potential for extension.

Full-Time Office/Project onsite 100% Work Location: Ogden, UT US Citizenship required

Project Overview: Craig Technologies is the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) partner on the Bechtel and Northrop Grumman team to deliver the Sentinel Program, which is modernizing the ground-based leg of the U.S. nuclear deterrent triad, including intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) systems and launch infrastructure. Craig Technologies scope of service in Sentinel's current Engineering & Manufacturing Development phase focuses on the ground infrastructure component of the program. A major contractor for the United States and allied governments, Craig Technologies has handled such efforts as chemical weapons demilitarization projects, missile-defense, infrastructure, base operations, procurement and project management, and restoration and recovery spanning half a century. We use our expertise to help our customers securely and effectively transform mission delivery.

Job Summary: In this role, you will plan, develop, and review electrical engineering design work, produce drawings and documentation, and prepare design estimates for a project. You will coordinate with clients, facilitate technical discussions, and review key electrical drawings, calculations, and bid summaries. You will solve complex technical issues and ensure electrical designs comply with all regulations and standards. This position is for a SmartPlant 3D Designer who will prepare electrical 3D designs as well as 2D electrical AutoCAD and SmartSketch designs to support new facility infrastructure design for DOD and USAF projects. The successful candidate must have strong organizational and teamwork skills, proven problem-solving abilities, can-do attitude, and the desire to innovate designs.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Plans, develops, coordinates, and reviews design work within a medium-size electrical design work group on projects of medium size or assignments in support of global business unit.
  • Produces drawings and documentation in accordance with established design and scope including design of earthwork, drainage, road design, foundation, and steel detailing.
  • Ensures electrical systems designs comply with all applicable installation codes, regulations, and standards.
  • Coordinates and interfaces as directed with the day-to-day technical work of electrical engineers, scientists, specialists, designers, and drafters.
  • Communicates complex technical issues and recommends solutions to upper management.
  • Facilitates technical discussions with third parties (client, suppliers, regulators).
  • Prepares or oversees the preparation of electrical design estimates and work plan in accordance with project scope, schedule and budget, and manages implementation and performance accordingly.
  • Develops Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), Craig Technologies design guides, appropriate Craig Technologies Standard Computer Applications (BSAPs) and administrative practices.
  • Coordinates with client representatives as delegated to obtain approval on phases of work.
  • Reviews and approves key electrical engineering drawings and calculations and bid summaries.
  • Mentors electrical designers and drafters by providing appropriate on-the-job training for their professional development.

This role will support design development of electrical systems and equipment for the Sentinel project by preparing models, drawings, and evaluations, in accordance with applicable procedures, codes, standards, and contract requirements. The candidate will work with electrical engineers, junior designers, and other technical disciplines in a team environment.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Level 1 Requires an AA/AS or Certificate in Engineering/CAD with 10-12 years of experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience.
  • Level 2 Requires an AA/AS or Certificate in Engineering/CAD with 13-15 years of experience or 14-17 years of relevant work experience.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge & application of NEC code and NEMA/ANSI/IEEE Standards.
  • Must have experience with an electronic Cable Management System, such as the SETROUTE program, and be able to input and complete corrections to the database.
  • Must be able to collaborate well with other disciplines.
  • Ability to cope with conflicting deadlines, frequent interruptions, and multiple tasks.
  • Relevant experience includes, but is not limited to, drawings for electrical systems and equipment on nuclear or industrial process facilities, data centers, central utility plants, or complex building electrical systems.
  • Hands-on and advanced experience using Smartplant 3D, SmartSketch, and AutoCAD.
  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • Ability to utilize engineering and office automation tools effectively.
  • Broad knowledge of the application of electrical engineering design principles.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems, schematics, and layouts.
  • Knowledge of Craig Technologies Corporate guides and standards.
  • Thorough knowledge of engineering deliverables, such as drawings and specifications.
  • Ability to express technical issues in a clear and concise manner, both written and verbally.
  • Ability to resolve design issues independently and collaboratively with other engineering disciplines, construction, and the client.
  • Modeling of piping, HVAC, and Mechanical equipment in a Smartplant 3D model environment.
  • Previous DoD/DoE, USACE, NAVFAC, USAF, or NASA project experience.
  • Experience working with procedures meeting quality assurance programs such as ISO-9000.

The salary range for this role is $120,000 - $176,000; however, Craig Technologies considers several factors when extending an offer for employment, including but not limited to, the role and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, education/training and preferred skills and knowledge.
