This position demands expertise in AutoCAD Plant 3D and a comprehensive understanding of piping layout principles, material specifications, and cross-functional collaboration. You will partner with engineering teams, project leadership, and field personnel to produce complete design documentation from initial concepts through construction-ready deliverables.
Responsibilities
Build and maintain comprehensive 3D piping models incorporating equipment, pipework, structural supports, and ancillary components
Generate process flow diagrams, piping and instrumentation diagrams, isometric drawings, layout plans, material lists, and shop fabrication documents
Conduct site surveys to validate existing conditions and incorporate as-built information into design documentation
Evaluate routing alternatives and provide recommendations to enhance constructability and operational accessibility
Coordinate with structural, mechanical, electrical, and controls disciplines to ensure seamless integration across systems
Implement applicable codes including ASME B31.3, B31.1, API standards, and project-specific engineering criteria
Assess vendor submittals and integrate technical data into 3D plant environments
Engage in design validation sessions and clash detection reviews using Navisworks or integrated Plant 3D functionality
Provide guidance and technical support to less experienced design staff while contributing to CAD protocol development
Assist cost estimation efforts through material quantification and preliminary layout concepts
Requirements
Minimum 8 years of hands-on piping design experience within industrial facility projects
Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD Plant 3D; familiarity with Vault systems is beneficial
Thorough knowledge of piping arrangements, material characteristics, valve applications, and instrument connectivity
Working knowledge of relevant industry codes (ASME, ANSI, API, NFPA)
Demonstrated ability to produce construction-grade deliverables and provide field support during installation phases
Strong analytical capabilities with flexibility to meet evolving project demands
Proven track record collaborating effectively across multiple engineering disciplines
Preferences
Background in steel production, chemical processing, power generation, mining operations, or water/wastewater treatment facilities
Experience incorporating 3D laser scanning data and point cloud models
Proficiency conducting model reviews and resolving spatial conflicts in Navisworks
Exposure to full EPC (Engineering, Procurement, Construction) project workflows
