Design Services Manager
The Design Services Manager provides the overall design services planning, coordination, and direction for Program Management to ensure it meets the client's programmatic needs and standards, industry design standards, regulatory codes, and industry trends on correctional projects. This position is based in Sacramento, CA.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
The Design Services Manager will be directly responsible for organizing and directing all efforts of the assigned individuals from the Technical Support Services Group. The Design Services Manager will work directly with assigned staff of architects, engineers, and other design professionals to ensure that all required design services are delivered at the highest level possible. Required design services include architectural space programs, prototypical design elements, security standards, sustainability standards, owner Design and Construction Standards guidelines, guideline specifications and a variety of other services that will establish the Program design standards and parameters. The Design Services Manager reports internally to the Deputy Program Manager for Program Controls. The Design Services Manager provides overall guidance for:
- Project Design Review
- Provide oversight of HVAC upgrades and infrastructure upgrades
- Development, refinement, and overall management of the client's design review process
- Scheduling, development, and execution of Subconsultant design review contracts and Task Orders
- Assist A/E Teams, Design Review Teams, Commissioning Teams, HCAI/OSHPD Peer Review Teams, Construction Management Teams, Project Managers, and Client Stakeholders in the design review process
- Provide oversight of multiple Design Review Team efforts
- Conduct Quality Assurance and Quality Control of the design review process
- Client Standard Design Documents (SDD) Drawings, Specifications, and Space Standards
- Assist in the development and management of change requests to the SDD Drawings and Specifications
- Execution of Subconsultant SDD review contracts and Task Orders
- Provide review, editing, and oversight of Subconsultant SDD review efforts
- Assist in review and edit of client's Design Criteria Guidelines, standards, and drawings
- Provide guidance on space standards specific to client's programmatic needs
- Field Assessment
- Occasional travel for field assessment of existing conditions within occupied prisons
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, architecture, or equivalent is required
- Minimum of 9 years of experience as an Architectural/Engineering/Design Project Manager and an additional 3 years of experience as a Senior Project Manager supervising staff is required
- Advanced knowledge and application of master planning, A/E solicitation, project development, design-phase management, construction estimating, cost, project controls/scheduling, documentation, engineering/construction principles, contracts and delivery methods is required
- Knowledge of Design-Build contracting methodology is preferred
- Thorough understanding of construction contracts, documents, drawings, and specifications and applied experience in the areas of project administrative and personnel interaction in professional settings is required
- Ability to work independently, but within strict established guidelines, and to prioritize and manage multiple efforts concurrently is required
- Thorough knowledge of the CCR Title 24 Standards is required
- Ability to clearly communicate code-based and standards design criteria directly with client's executive staff is required
- Experience in effectively and respectfully supervising multiple staff/consultants is required
- Experience with large campus or multi-building facilities is preferred
- Strong computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite products is required; SharePoint experience is preferred
- Registration as an Architect or Professional Engineer is required; California licensure is preferred
- Basic security check meeting client's guidelines is required
Offered rate of compensation will be based on a variety of non-discriminatory factors, including education, qualifications, experience, and geographic location. The Salary range for this position is $200,000-$210,000.
