Lead Product Manager

The Merchandising Systems Product Management team is responsible for conceptualizing, designing and delivering the merchandising system innovations that drive Williams-Sonoma Inc.'s industry leading omni-channel business. The team focuses on internal tools that enable brand partners to manage the product assortment across all WSI eCommerce brands and channels. This includes platforms spanning the full item lifecycle—from upstream product design and data management through content authoring, publishing, and live site delivery.

As Lead Product Manager on the Merchandising Systems team, you will own a significant portion of the team's portfolio and drive delivery of internal platforms that WSI brand teams rely on to manage the online product assortment. Your first-year focus will be the Web Assortment Management (WAM) program—a greenfield platform replacing a 15-year-old legacy system used across all WSI brands. WAM is a multi-phase, multi-brand rollout that will dramatically improve speed to market, data quality, and operational efficiency across the business.

Beyond WAM, the role's scope will evolve as the team's portfolio evolves—potentially expanding into adjacent areas such as digital asset management, product information management, automation, or other merchandising capabilities depending on team needs. You will work cross-functionally with other Merchandising Systems PDMs, eCommerce product teams, brand merchandising, site operations, and technology partners across the enterprise.

The right candidate has experience leading complex internal platform or enterprise tooling programs, is comfortable operating in ambiguity, and can translate business workflows into well-structured requirements. You have an appreciation for change management and business process design, and you take building for internal users as seriously as building for customers.

Responsibilities include:

  • Own the product vision, strategy, and roadmap for your assigned area within the Merchandising Systems portfolio, with WAM as the primary near-term initiative.
  • Lead definition, prioritization, and scoping of features and epics. Write business requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria grounded in detailed domain knowledge.
  • Drive execution and iterative delivery in collaboration with Program Management, Engineering, User Experience, Architecture, and offshore engineering partners. Manage trade-offs, unblock teams, and maintain delivery momentum across a multi-phase program.
  • Develop deep domain expertise in web merchandising workflows, content management, and upstream data integrations to make informed product decisions and anticipate business needs.
  • Partner with brand business stakeholders (Site Merchants, Site Creatives, Copy, Site Managers) to understand workflows, gather requirements, validate designs, and drive adoption.
  • Socialize a clear view of priorities and progress against the product roadmap with business partners and senior leadership. Communicate trade-offs and scope decisions transparently.
  • Collaborate with other product managers within the Merchandising Systems and Digital Product Management teams to ensure alignment on shared goals, dependencies, and roadmaps.
  • Serve as a liaison between Business and Technology teams to ensure merchandising solutions meet business expectations with high adoption and satisfaction rates.
  • Drive brand onboarding, change management, and operational readiness for WAM rollout. Support UAT, training, and post-launch optimization.
  • Define and track KPIs for platform performance, operational efficiency, data quality, and user adoption. Use data to drive ongoing prioritization.
  • Identify and drive automation opportunities that reduce manual effort, accelerate time to market, and improve data quality. Champion efficiency as a core product outcome.
  • Research market trends, competitive merchandising tools, and emerging patterns in content management and PIM to inform the product direction.
  • Contribute to the improvement of the team's practices, frameworks, and standards.
  • Ability to pivot to align with evolving business objectives.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Criteria include:

  • 8+ years product management experience leading ideation and delivery of business value through technology solutions, with significant experience on internal platforms, enterprise tools, or B2B SaaS products.
  • Demonstrated experience leading complex, multi-phase programs involving data models, integrations, workflow engines, or content management systems.
  • Experience working with business operations users (not just end consumers) and translating their workflows into scalable product solutions.
  • Experience with change management for internal tooling—including user onboarding, training, workflow transition planning, and driving adoption across distributed teams.
  • Proven ability to manage trade-offs and drive decisions in ambiguous, cross-functional environments with multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong technical aptitude. You can engage meaningfully with engineers and architects on topics like API design, event-driven integrations, validation logic, data migration, and search infrastructure.
  • Strong communication skills with demonstrated ability to influence across business, technology, and executive audiences.
  • Strong analytical abilities; uses data to back up recommendations, prioritization, and drive actions.
  • Strong drive towards execution and delivering value. Comfortable operating as both strategist and hands-on product manager.
  • Experience in working with cross-functional teams including offshore engineering partners.
  • Knowledge of eCommerce merchandising operations, PIM/DAM systems, or retail industry is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with content modeling, taxonomy design, or product information management is a plus.
  • You have a Bachelor's degree or more in Business, Marketing, Computer Science, or Engineering or equivalent work experience.
  • This role requires being onsite in our Rocklin, CA office Monday through Thursday.
