Senior Staff Product Designer
QuickBooks Live connects millions of small business owners with real, credentialed experts at the moment it matters most, transforming what can feel like an overwhelming financial burden into a confident, guided experience. As AI reshapes how people access expertise, the opportunity and responsibility is to ensure these experiences feel intelligent, human, and trustworthy at every touchpoint.
We are seeking a Senior Staff Product Designer to shape the future of QuickBooks Live. This is a high-craft, systems-oriented role working at the intersection of AI and human expertise, focused on defining experiences that are seamless, scalable, and deeply useful. You will partner across teams to ensure AI-assisted and expert-led experiences work as one, strengthening trust and raising the quality bar across the entire Live ecosystem.
This is not a feature-level role. It is about defining how AI and human connection work in concert, and what 'great' looks like when real people's finances are on the line.
Responsibilities
- Define and own experience strategy across multiple product areas and domains
- Identify high-leverage systemic opportunities—the friction points that, when solved, elevate entire workflows rather than individual features
- Establish design principles and frameworks that guide decision-making across teams and persist beyond any single project
- Drive multi-quarter or multi-year strategic plans that balance near-term business goals with long-term product coherence
- Align senior Product and Engineering leaders around a shared vision, translating complexity into clear direction
Craft Excellence & Systems Thinking
- Elevate interaction and visual quality across multiple domains—setting and defending a high bar for clarity, precision, and craft
- Lead large, ambiguous design explorations that span multiple teams and require deep systems thinking
- Strengthen and evolve shared design standards and interaction models, knowing when to reinforce consistency and when to push forward
- Reduce fragmentation and design debt across product surfaces by identifying patterns and establishing scalable solutions
- Balance experimentation and innovation with long-term clarity and the trust that small business owners place in QuickBooks
Data Fluency & Informed Decision-Making
- Use analytics, research, and qualitative insights to identify strategic opportunity spaces and validate design direction
- Connect design investments to measurable customer and business outcomes—articulating the 'why' behind strategic choices
- Partner closely with Engineering and Data Science teams to understand technical constraints and shape architecture that enables better experiences
- Drive thoughtful AI-assisted and AI-native experience patterns that meaningfully improve workflows without creating confusion or over-automation
- Actively lead conversations on how data should inform design decisions, surfacing insights that others might miss
Influence & Organizational Impact
- Communicate cross-domain design strategy clearly to senior stakeholders, making the invisible visible through compelling narratives and frameworks
- Influence decision-making at the Director and VP level through clarity of thought and strength of work
- Lead large cross-functional initiatives requiring alignment across product, engineering, and business organizations
- Mentor Staff and Senior Designers, elevating their systems thinking, craft rigor, and ability to work at scale
- Strengthen design practices, processes, and quality standards across teams—modeling how great design work happens
Qualifications
- 8+ years of experience designing large-scale digital products
- Experience shaping cross-domain design strategy
- Strong systems thinking and strategic judgment
- Ability to influence senior stakeholders
- A portfolio demonstrating both craft excellence and strategic impact
